Something for everyone!
FOR BEGINNERS
Several ski areas are ideal to learn the basics of skiing or snowboarding: Les Planards and Le Savoy near Chamonix center, or La Vormaine and Les Chosalets when going towards Argentière.
FOR THE MORE EXPERIENCED
The following areas are more suitable.
Starting from Chamonix or Les Praz, the Brévent-Flégère area, on the sunny side, is the best for you at the beginning of the ski season.
Starting from Argentière, Les Grands Montets on the north side retains very high-quality snow for a very long time. It’s the last area to close at the end of the season.
At the far end of the valley near the Swiss border, Le Tour-Vallorcine features some nice slopes through the forest, ideal for families.
At Les Houches, the town neighboring Chamonix, you can enjoy beautiful slopes sheltered by charming pine forests.
FOR EXPERT SKIERS
The renowned “Top des Grands Montets”, with its plow-free snow and safe area, is a must.
And then there’s the world famous Vallée Blanche, a once in a lifetime experience on a glacier, that starts at the Aiguille du Midi.
A word of caution: We strongly recommend that you hire a high mountain guide to accompany you!

Other winter activites to be done in Chamonix
Snowshoeing :
Snowmobiling
Experience the joy of zooming through the snow on a motorised machine! If you love thrills and excitement and enjoy motorised adventures, you simply can’t beat the sensation of snowmobiling.
Descending Vallée Blanche on skis
VALLÉE BLANCHE IS AN OFF-PISTE MONT BLANC SKI DESCENTE OF MORE THAN 20 KILOMETRES.
Accessible from the cable cars of the Aiguille du Midi, you’ll descend the whole way on skis, all the way to Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (1050 metres). Strong skiers can make their descent on this renowned alpine glacial track on Mont Blanc.
Snowjoring
SKIJORING IS A NEW FORM OF SKIING. IT’S A SPORT THAT COMBINES SKIING AND HARNESS RIDING.
In a tradition hailing from the Great North, the skier is harnessed behind a horse or pony (for kids), and connected to the animal with a strong cord (harness) so it’s easy to stear. This activity can be enjoyed in packed snow, on dedicated tracks, or circuits. This is 100% natural and takes you off the beaten path.
Cross-country skiing
Cross-country skiing is the perfect sport for everyone who loves the sensation of gliding on snow and wants to venture off into magical scenery for a total sensory escape.
Cross-country skiing is one of the most popular Nordic ski-type winter sports. It’s popular in Northern Europe, Canada, and Russia, most particularly around Eastern Europe and Alaska. Cross-country skiing can be practiced not only on flat or hilly snowy terrain, but also off established tracks.
